About the Institute
Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. Emphasising a devoted focus to into suicide prevention, digital mental health, a workplace mental health, we undertake a unique ‘translational’ research approach that allows us to turn our world-class findings into new treatments, prevention strategies, clinical services, educational programs, and e-health products.We join the dots by connecting research answers, expert knowledge, and the voices of lived experience to deliver solutions that impact and boost the health care system for patients and practitioners alike. Desired Skills and Experience

The Role

This role provides project management leadership on a NHMRC-funded Synergy grant: Intelligent Systems for Delivering Precision Interventions to Reduce Distress (INSPIRE). The prevalence of psychological distress (i.e., distressing symptoms of depression and anxiety), has increased in the past 20 years, especially among youth, women, and cultural and sexual/gender minority groups. Psychological therapy is the recommended first-line treatment, but it can be expensive and less effective for those who need it most. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve the personalisation of therapy and scale up treatment to effect population-level improvement. The role will work closely with the project team to make sure that our project delivers the research described in our SYNERGY grant. The PM will ensure the project is resourced effectively, managed efficiently, achieves project objectives and is conducted within allocated budgets and agreed timelines in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) if applicable, ethical and regulatory requirements and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The PM also provides supervision to Research Officer(s)/Assistant(s) as required.

Duties & Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Undertake management planning, including setting deadlines, prioritizing tasks, and assigning team members to various deliverables.
  • Provide project reports, including budget and risk outlines, to the NHMRC, the UNSW, the internal team and the Chief Investigators.
  • Write clear and concise specifications, reports, project management plans, business cases, project schedules, budgets and briefing notes and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Continuously and proactively evaluate projects to ensure they are meeting organisation standards, adhering to budgets, and meeting deadlines.
  • Contribute to publications. • Identify project specific activities that need to be out-sourced and manage vendor selection and contracting.
  • Manage projects using project management software such as SuiteProjects, Microsoft Teams and Jira

Stakeholder Management

  • Organise project meetings
  • Manage internal and external project teams and stakeholders in the timely development and delivery of large scale projects.
  • Identify any issues that develop and seek advice and support from chief investigators
  • Develop a communications plan and implement it to ensure good team work

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in related science, healthcare, or project management
  • Formal project management qualifications, or equivalent practical experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, from planning through to evaluation
  • Must have experience in the implementation of clinical or e-health trials
  •  Knowledge and skills in project management techniques, tools and methodologies, covering all phases of the project life-cycle
  • Proven project delivery and understanding of scientific practice
  • Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to consult and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Outstanding communication skills, with demonstrated ability to leverage relationships and networks of internal and external stakeholders to positively influence outcomes.
  • Proven ability to prepare various documents including project management documentation, budgets, work schedules, briefing notes, business cases, correspondence and reports
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
