Located on Gadigal and Bidjigal land (Randwick, NSW), Black Dog Institute is the only Medical Research Institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the full lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone. Through effective communications, we lead Australia’s population health response to suicide prevention and champion the ongoing conversation of mental health in our society.

The Role

The purpose of the Internal Communications Manager role is to engage, support and motivate employees by creating an effective flow of information from the business to employees on a range of strategic, and operational. Working across all areas of ‘The Institute’, the Internal Communications Manager must develop and maintain strong working relationships across the organisation to ensure communication to employees is accurate and transparent. This Internal Communications Manager will work at both strategic and operational levels to provide employees with clear, transparent and cohesive communications contributing to increasing employee engagement and ensuring business change is understood and adopted.

Duties & Responsibilities

Internal Communications Strategy and Implementation

• Review and optimise a comprehensive internal communication framework that aligns with the overall business objectives and ‘Ways of Working’.

• Delivery of internal communications plan including key messaging and delivery schedule for activities including monthly all-staff meetings, internal newsletters, change and emergency communications, and other internal employee communications.

• Manage the measurement and ongoing refinement of the internal communications strategy and agreed engagement metrics.

• Develop clear and consistent messaging that conveys company news, policies, and updates effectively to all employees.

• Produce engaging and informative content for various internal communication channels, such as: staff intranet, company meetings, Executive updates, and other relevant platforms.

• Responsibility and ownership of final sign off on all internal communications content.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors (where appropriate).

• Work collaboratively across the organisation to identify opportunities, leverage existing activity and create efficiencies.

• Collaborate with executive and senior leaders to craft and deliver messages that foster transparency and alignment with employees at all levels.

Administration

• Developing and tracking activity against agreed KPIs.

• Relevant administration related to the role such as meeting minutes, budget tracking, attending marketing & communications team meetings.

Skills & Experience Required 

1. Tertiary qualification in communications, public relations, or similar field.

2. A minimum of five years' experience in Communications - including at least two years' focused experience in the development and execution of internal communications plans.

3. Previous experience working with executive and/or C-suite level stakeholders.

4. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to positively influence outcomes and develop and maintain productive working relationships.

5. Demonstrated experience in creating employee engagement strategies and tactics that deliver against organisational goals and KPIs.

6. High level of attention to detail and experience with copywriting.

7. Proactive, solution-focused, organised approach to work.

8. High level of proficiency using various communication tools and email marketing platforms – e.g. Campaign Monitor.
