The Role
The Finance Officer provides support to a range of internal stakeholders through general accounting duties. In addition, the role assists with identifying and implementing process improvements across the finance function at Black Dog Institute.
Duties & Responsibilities
Contribute to the monthly financial accounting processes for BDI, which may include:
• Monthly reconciliation of several general ledger accounts including donations, clinic and transaction bank accounts.
• Posting income and expense recognition journals / running proceses. • Accounts receivable, including customer management, raising invoices and processing refunds.
• Travel provider and credit card reconciliations / expense management.
• Assist with accounts payable, including supplier management, supplier onboarding, supplier bank and business details checking.
• Post and reconcile transactions in Xero for Mind Venture subsidiary.
• Management of the finance inbox.
• Regularly review operating processes and procedures for work area and recommend and implement changes to allow for greater productivity.
• Assist Finance Business Partners as required.
• Support audit process
Skills & Experience Required
1. Competent Excel skills, including ability to troubleshoot
2. Ability to effectively manage time, set priorities and organise work in an effective and efficient manner to achieve set objectives to agreed timelines.
3. Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
4. Ability to communicate effectively at all levels both within and outside the organisation to effectively translate ideas, concepts, and information.
5. Demonstrated practical skills in accounting and use of finance systems, including several platforms
6. High levels of accuracy with a strong attention to detail.
7. Demonstrated capacity to analyse and solve problems and use judgement and conceptual skills to make sound decisions.
Desirable Criteria
1. A minimum of two years recent experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable or Finance Officer role
2. Experience in the Not-for-Profit sector, particularly in a Medical Research Institute
3. Partially qualified (including studying towards) / fully qualified accountant 4. Experience with NetSuite and SAP Concur
