The Role
A Research Assistant plays a key role in the administration of research projects at the Black Dog Institute. In this role, the research assistant will work with a multidisciplinary team of senior researchers to support all technical and administrative research activities on a specific project. The project is aimed at understanding how to use technology to equip parents with the knowledge and skills to prevent their child/ren from engaging in self-harm behaviour.
Duties & Responsibilities
Research Accountabilities
• Undertake systematic searching for a literature review
• Contribute to preparing and editing research reports, manuscripts (including systematic reviews), and presentations
• Assist with ethics applications/amendments, responding to queries from research ethics boards, maintaining the study master file and archiving of ethics forms and study documents
• Assist with participant recruitment materials and processes, in accordance with any relevant study protocols
• Assisting with data collection, including qualitative interviews with parents, and help senior staff with data analysis
• Perform other general research tasks associated with the project
• Adhere to all research ethics and governance codes and regulations
Project Support
• Develop relationships and regularly liaise with project staff and stakeholders to coordinate study progress, identify issues that arise, and ensure adherence to any relevant study protocols.
• Maintain the collection and storage of research data in adherence to the project's research data management plan, including coordinating and executing data cleaning, data management processes and ensuring research integrity in research databases.
• Coordinate, plan, and complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.
Selection Criteria
• An undergraduate university degree in public health, psychology or related discipline, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training, or experience.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting, and writing, literature and/or systematic reviews
• Demonstrated experience in collecting, analysing, and interpreting research data (qualitative and/or quantiative).
• A sound understanding of research ethics and experience in supporting the development, submission, and monitoring of ethics applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively (orally and written) to maintain stakeholder relationships and ensure project progress.
• Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to exercise judgement and work independently while managing competing demands.
• An understanding of, and commitment to, BDI’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
