Desired Skills and Experience

The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled person to support the setup, management, and quality control of data for a large-scale, school based research clinical trial involving 6000+ students. The role involves building and maintaining REDCap surveys, managing data workflows, providing technical support during data collection, ensuring data integrity, and preparing clean datasets for analysis. The Data Officer will help ensure data collection processes are efficient, accurate, and aligned with ethical and data governance requirements of clinical research trials.

The role reports to the Program Lead and has no direct reports. The successful candidate will work closely with other research support staff who will share in the responsibility for the coordination and daily operations of this research trial.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, build, test, and maintain data collection instruments in REDCap.

• Manage the flow of study data, including exports, imports, and updates.

• Develop and implement data cleaning protocols to ensure accuracy and consistency.

• Provide technical support to schools during scheduled data collection

• Monitor data quality and perform routine audits and validations.

• Collaborate with research staff to ensure compliance with study protocols and data governance requirements.

• Prepare clean, well-documented datasets for analysis.

• Maintain detailed records of data collection activities, school participation, and any data issues encountered

• Assist in preparing data reports for internal tracking and safety monitoring, or reporting to stakeholders and the data safety board.

• Adhere to all research ethics and governance codes, regulations and institutional policies, and ensure research data quality standards are met.

Other Activities

• Attend regular team meetings and contribute to project coordination tasks as required

• Provide general administrative support related to the research trial, including document organisation and file management

Selection Criteria

Essential Criteria

1. Bachelor degree (or higher) in Public Health, Data Science, Psychology, Health Informatics, or a related field.

2. Hands on experience with (relational) Research Data Management Systems, preferably REDCap or similar, including queries, data formatting, importing, and processing.

3. Demonstrated proficient skills in MS Excel and at least one data analysis tool (e.g., R, Stata, Python). 4. Experience working in a research environment and familiarity with national ethical and university data privacy standards of research trials.

5. Exceptional attention to detail and experience with large and longitudinal data sets.

6. Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability.

Desirable Criteria

1. Relevant tertiary qualification in mathematics, computer science, statistics or other related discipline.

2. Experience in data analysis for reporting and research publications
